Don’t Talk Down to Your Readers

Don’t Talk Down to Your Readers

If you need to address a complicated subject in your blog, don’t assume your readers are idiots.

Recently, I saw a blog entry that all but said, “We know this topic is really, really complicated and we know you’re all just silly, little pretty women with hardly a brain in your head, but really, if you try really hard, you can understand this!  We know you can!”

Ugh.  I was on the verge of vomiting.

Using your well-honed writing skills, just say what you have to say, clearly and carefully, and your readers will understand.  Give them credit; they’re likely smarter than you think they are.
